Books… and Life

Thanks to my sister who brought me to Gramedia Book Fair in Sabuga. Actually, I did not  expect much and did not plan to buy anything (I bought a book last week and haven’t read it)… until I found books for Rp 5.000 – Rp10.000 only! And they ARE good, or even great, seriously! Not those cheesy chick-lit or anything! So, finally I bought 2 translated books and 1 Indonesian book. Now, what’s important is what the books are all about.

I think I have become so anxious of entering the real life. I mean.. I’m going to graduate soon and enter the real world out there. Even if I haven’t finished my final project, when I have no more classes to attend, I think it means that it’s my time to finish college and not a time to slack off and delay my graduation. Don’t take it wrong, when you haven’t graduated but you do something other than your final project such as business, projects, or anything, I do appreciate it. I count it as entering the real world, hehehe. I might just take all this post-graduation life too seriously, but I do think about it a lot of times.

Unconsciously, all the books I bought, including 1 English book I got last week, are about planning life for someone who will or has just graduated, someone like me. I can’t say much about books I haven’t read, but let me just mention the titles to show how paranoid I am :P So, here’s the list: Read the rest of this entry »

Shopping

I went shopping today! Ha, it’s been a while since the last time I shopped last November for a shirt, a pair of shoes, and several bargain (yes, they were on sale! I mean it!) books at the book fair in Senayan. After that, I went through some sort of financial crisis that restricted me from buying things (mmm… except that pair of New Balance shoes, and mmm… that pair of fake Crocs, fufufu). OK OK, I admit that I eat lifestyle food (> Rp10.000/meal) too often, that too, uh.

Anyway, my point is that I haven’t bought any new clothes for nearly 6 months, and suddenly today I just feel that I need to buy one some. Actually, I was in Istana Plaza with Erga for lunch, not planning to buy anything other than food. I don’t know how that shopping feeling came, but suddenly I just found myself walking in and out of stores and sale areas looking at clothes. Too bad, I couldn’t find anything that both I like and I can afford. The nice clothes at the ground floor sale area that I saw 1 or 2 weeks ago were gone already. I was thinking of going home when I saw a woman with The Executive Super Sale bag. Hooo, one of my favorite brands! I remember they also had sale some time ago, but I wasn’t keen on shopping at that time. This is indeed not a bad time for shopping!

So, I spent the next hour sorting and fitting clothes (and let Erga wander around the mall by himself, sorry!) until finally buying two short-sleeve shirts 30% cheaper than their “normal sale” price. Yeah, they put it on 50% sale all year long and never sell it on the “real” price, but this time they really are having the real sale, which is 70% off the “real price”. So, let’s say that if the “real” price is Rp100.000, the 50%-sale-all-year-long price would be Rp50.000, and the price that I paid today would be around Rp30.000. Hohoho, not a bad deal. After I got home, I was fitting my clothes in front of the mirror in my room when I got an SMS from my sister: “La, do you want to buy shirts? I saw some good ones at The Executive BIP with 70% discount.” Yes, I did wanted to buy some shirts. In fact, I just bought 2 at that store you mentioned, hahaha. What a coincidence! FYI, my sister doesn’t normally inform me on clothes sales, I don’t know why she felt like telling me this time. But I do rely on her as my personal fashion stylist, or personal shopper, as what Becky Brandon does in Shopaholic series, hehehe.

Dulu cuma bikin ngiler, sekarang…

Anyway, skarang gw mau crita soal “popular street food”.

Makanan yang gw maksud tentu adalah semua makanan favorit gw: kebab, steak, burger (with real patty, not the factory-made one with sausage taste), wafel, dimsum, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, dan yang paling baru: sushi! Read the rest of this entry »

Where Did I Go? – The Answer

Hi, people! Sorry that I’ve been putting off writing in this blog lately, although I’m back in town and already available since the beginning of this week. Anyway, people have asked me lots of questions about my trip (or.. why I never show up for 2 full weeks), such as where did I go, what for, why, etc. And my answer was always: “It’s a long story. I’ll write about it in my blog.” So, I kinda owe some people to tell about this. Well, I hope my explanation in this post can satisfy your curiousness. Enjoy!

So, the rumor was right that I went to the United States, Chicago to be exact. Yup, that’s the place where I went as an AFS exchange student in high school. However, this time, my trip is not for AFS, ITB (my college), SEF (debating), or anything you might have in your mind ;) I told some of you that I went there for a family business, which is not wrong. I went to the US for a deposition. Now, what is a deposition? Here’s the long story. Don’t interrupt!
